[′shȯr ′skler·ə‚skōp ′härd·nəs ‚test] (metallurgy) A rebound hardness test in which a metal body is dropped vertically down a glass tube onto the surface of the material being tested; the height of the rebound is a measure of the hardness. Also known as scleroscope hardness test.
