(Univerzitet u Sarajevu), one of Yugoslavia’s largest institutions of higher learning, founded in 1946 in Sarajevo.

In 1974 the University of Sarajevo had faculties of sciences, political sciences, economics, law, philosophy, medicine, agriculture, veterinary sciences, forestry, building and construction, architecture and city planning, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mining and technology (Tuzla), metallurgy (Zenica), and engineering (Banja Luka). The Higher School of Physical Culture and the Biological Institute are under the university’s jurisdiction. In the 1973–74 school year the university had about 17,000 students and about 250 professors and instructors.
