Shofar Sign

A descriptive term for a stomach deformed by chronic Crohn's disease, in which a relatively normal gastric fundus and body funnel into a gastric antrum converted into a stiffened tube with superficial rugosities and sluggish peristalsis, observed by an upper GI series and fancifully likened to the Jewish shofar. This finding is identical in import to the far more common Crohn's disease of the terminal ileum in which the small intestinal stenotic stiffening has been likened to a garden hose
