Abu Yusuf, Yakub Ibn Ibrahim

Born 731; died 798. Arab Muslim jurist, disciple of the founder of the Hanifite school, Abu Hanifah.

During the rule of the caliphs Hadi (785–786) and Harun al-Rashid (786–809), Abu Yusuf was a qadi (judge) in Baghdad. His Book on the Land Tax (Kitab al-kharaj), written at the request of Harun al-Rashid, is a valuable source for the social and economic history of the early caliphate.
