Sviatovit

Sviatovit

(also Svetovit, Svantovit), one of the chief gods of the West Slavic pantheon. The main temple to Sviatovit was on the island of Rügen (Slavic, Ruiana), in the city of Arkona. A stone statue in the temple depicted Sviatovit as a four-faced figure holding a sword and urus horn. The saddle, bridle, and sword were the god’s attributes. Feasts and sacrifices in honor of Sviatovit were held annually. The temple and statue were destroyed by the Danes in 1169.
