Sorocaba, established in 1661, was famous in the 19th cent. for its cattle fairs and iron foundry.Sorocabaa city in southeastern Brazil, in the state of Săo Paulo. Population, 175,900 (1970). Sorocaba has a railroad station. An important center for the manufacture of textiles and for metallurgy, it also has enterprises of the cement, chemical, food-processing, and electrical industries.
