Ak-Dovurak
(Tuvinian, “white earth”), a city in Barun-Khemchik Raion, Tuva ASSR. Located on the left bank of the Khemchik River (left tributary of the Enisei), 320 km west of Kyzyl. Population, 9,500 (1967). Ak-Dovurak was founded in 1964 in connection with the construction of the Tuva Asbestos Combine, which uses the deposits of high quality chrysotile asbestos. A highway from Ak-Dovurak across the Western Saian to Abaza (Krasnoiarsk Krai) was built in 1969 in order to establish contact between the combine and the railroad.
