AKAP3

A gene on chromosome 12p13.3 that encodes a member of the structurally diverse A-kinase anchor protein (AKAP) family, which binds to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A, confining the enzyme to discrete locations within the cell. AKAP3 is only expressed in the testis, localises to the ribs of the fibrous sheath in the principal piece of the sperm tail, and may regulate motility- and head-associated functions, such as capacitation and the acrosome reaction.
