Svaneti


Svaneti

 

a mountain range in the Georgian SSR, between the upper reaches of the Inguri and Tskhenistskali rivers. The Svaneti Range is 85 km long and reaches an elevation of 4,008 m, at Mount Laila. It is composed of clay shales and partially of quartzites. There are glaciers on the crest. Alpine and montane meadows cover the slopes; there are beech and dark coniferous forests at lower elevations.
