It is a fashionable resort and gaming center and a major flower market. San Remoa city in northern Italy, on the Italian Riviera, in Imperia Province. Population, 65,000 (1971). San Remo is a balneologic and climatic health resort. Winters are warm, with average December, January, and February temperatures ranging between 9.8°C and 10.2°C, and summers are warm, with an average June, July, and August temperature of 23°C. There is sea bathing from May to November. Lung diseases, functional disorders of the nervous system, obesity, and diabetes mellitus are treated in San Remo. In April 1920 this city was the site of a conference of the Supreme Allied Council. Tourism is an important industry. An Italian song festival has been held in San Remo annually since 1951.
