remote echo

(communications)(Obsolete: "full-duplex") A mode of operationof communicating programs or devices in which the sendingsystem does not display the characters the user enters, butonly sends them to the remote system which then "echoes" themback to be displayed to the user. This lets the operator seenot only typing errors, but also transmission errors. This isnow the usual mode of most systems with remote users.

The transmission of received data back to the sending station for visual verification. A local echo displays the typed keystrokes from the local machine, but a remote echo displays the data after it has been sent, received and retransmitted back.
