Taylor, Glen Hearst,

1904–84, U.S. senator (1945–51), b. Portland, Oreg. He joined (1919) a stock theatrical company and after 1926 became a business manager in various entertainment enterprises. He also was a country-western singer. He was elected U.S. senator from Idaho as a Democrat, but in 1948 he bolted the Democratic party to run for vice president with Henry A.  as the Progressive party candidate. After his defeat he returned to the Democratic party. In the late 1950s he and his wife founded a successful hairpiece manufacturing firm in California.
