[′fän·ik ′mōd·ər] (electricity) A small synchronous motor which is driven by the current of an accurate oscillator, such as a crystal oscillator, and whose frequency is thus constant to a high degree of accuracy; used in astronomical instruments where a driving speed of great accuracy is required.
