Remizinae

a subfamily of birds of the family Paridae. The birds are small and have a sharp bill. Their nests are roofed over and have a side entrance. The genus Anthoscopus (six species) is encountered in Africa, the genus Auriparus (one species) in southwestern North America, and the genus Remiz in Europe and Asia (including the eastern USSR to the Amur Region). The genus Remiz has a single species, the penduline tit (R. pendulinus), whose body length reaches 11 cm.

The plumage is chestnut, ocher, and gray in coloration. The birds are mostly migratory; only a few are sedentary. They settle along the edges of reed thickets near lakes or in trees along rivers and streams. Their nests, which are made from vegetable fiber and down from willows, reeds, and other plants, hang at the ends of branches or between reeds. There are four to ten eggs in the clutch. The birds feed on insects, spiders, and small seeds.
