pseudopapilloedema pseu·do·pap·il·le·de·ma (sū'dō-pap'il-ĕ-dē'mă) Anomalous elevation of the optic disc; seen in severe hyperopia and optic nerve drusen. Synonym(s): pseudopapilloedema. pseudopapilloedema A non-specific term used to describe those conditions in which the optic disc is elevated resembling papilloedema. All have normal intraocular pressure. They include optic disc drusen, small discs in hyperopia greater than 4 D, hyaloid remnant, myelinated nerve fibres, optic neuropathies and papillitis. It is usually bilateral and unlike true papilloedema there is no haemorrhage, the margins of the disc are relatively sharp and spontaneous venous pulsation is usually present. |
