Phlebectasia a dilation of a vein due to any of the following causes: valvular insufficiency, the ejection of blood from deep veins into superficial veins, and interference with venous blood flow as a result of compression of the vein by a tumor or scars. Varicosities of superficial veins in the lower extremities and of submucosal veins in the rectum (hemorrhoids) and in the esophagus are the main forms of phlebectasia. phlebectasia
