Pseudo-Maurice
Pseudo-Maurice
the conventional name of the author of the Byzantine treatise on military science known as the Strategikon, written at the turn of the seventh century; certain manuscripts ascribe authorship to the Emperor Maurice, who ruled from 582 to 602. The work is an important source for the study of both the Byzantine art of war and the daily life and social relations of the ancient Slavs, Avars, Persians, and other peoples.
