PseudolarixPseudolarixa genus of coniferous trees of the family Pina-ceae. There is one species, golden larch (Pseudolarix amabilis), which reaches a height of 40 m and has a low, conoid crown. The leaves measure up to 5 cm long and are light green in the summer and golden in the fall; they are spirally arranged on the long shoots and in bunches of 15–30 on the short club-shaped spurs. The cones, which are ovate and erect, measure 5–7 cm long and 4–5 cm wide; their seeds are light, and winged and ripen in the first year. After the seeds ripen, the cones disintegrate. Golden larch is found in the mountains of East China at elevations of 900–1,200 m. The light brown wood is lightweight. The tree is cultivated as an ornamental in gardens of Western Europe and in the USSR on the Black Sea Shore of the Caucasus (south of Sochi). REFERENCEDerev’ia i kustarniki SSSR, vol. 1.
