Shimek State Forest
Location:Southeast Iowa, 1 mile east of Farmington.
Facilities:Forest comprises 5 units, 4 with recreation facilities: FarmingtonUnit has 8 campsites, boat ramp, picnic area (é), fishing dock,parking area, restrooms, and hiking trails (18.9 miles); DonnellsonUnit has 11 campsites, 1 walk-in site, boat ramp, nature trail, picnicareas, and hiking trails (6.2 miles); Lick Creek Unit has 35 equestriancampsites, hitching rails, horse stalls, pit toilets, picnic tables,day-use area, and equestrian trails (25 miles); Keosauqua Unit hashiking trails (7.7 miles). Entire forest is open to hunting (except camping areas) and hiking.
Activities:Camping, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting.
Special Features:Shimek has the largest continuous stand of forest cover in the state.
