Trypodendron
Trypodendron
a genus of beetles of the family Scolytidae. They have a bare and glossy cylindrical body, 2.8-3.8 mm long and with a protruding pronotum; they are black and their wing cases usually have stripes. The beetles live in wood, in which they bore passages. The legless, soft, S-shaped larvae feed on the hyphae of the ambrosia fungus, which beetles bring to the passages. There are nine species in the USSR, including the lineate bask-beetle (T. lineatus), which damages conifers, the oak pinhole borer (T. domesticus), which damages oak and sometimes other deciduous trees, and T. signatus, which attacks various deciduous species.
