Philips ionization gage Philips ionization gage[′fil·əps ‚ī·ə·nə′zā·shən ‚gāj] (electronics) An ionization gage in which a high voltage is applied between two electrodes, and a strong magnetic field deflects the resulting electron stream, increasing the length of the electron path and thus increasing the chance for ionizing collisions of electrons with gas molecules. Abbreviated pig. Also known as cold-cathode ionization gage; Penning gage. |
