Titanosuchoidea

Titanosuchoidea

a superfamily of extinct reptiles of the suborder Deinocephalia, subclass Synapsida, that lived in the Late Permian. Titanosuchoidea was divided into two groups: predatory and herbivorous. Predatory genera, such as Titanophoneus, had strong canine teeth and a light skeleton, while herbivorous genera, such as Estemmenosuchus, had less developed canines and a massive skeleton. Remains of Titanosuchoidea skeletons are known from South Africa. Remains are most numerous in the Volga and Urals regions of the USSR, especially in Perm’ Oblast, near the city of Ocher, where the Ocher fauna, which preceded the Severnaia Dvina fauna, was found in excavations.
