Sushenitsa

Sushenitsa

the Russian common name for 12 species of the genus Gnaphalium that are distributed in the USSR. Gnaphalium uliginosum and a few closely related species grow predominantly in the forest or, more rarely, forest-steppe and steppe zones, often on river banks and the shores of bodies of water. They prefer moist soils and grow as weeds in cultivated and fallow fields. Gnaphalium uliginosum has medicinal properties. It is used for infusions, mainly with gastric ulcers. In oil solution it is used externally for hard-to-heal wounds, ulcers, and burns. Gnaphalium sylvaticum is a perennial found in the forest and forest-steppe zones on plains and up to the intermediate mountain belt in sparse forests, glades and clearings, the margins of forests, and dry-valley meadows.
