Samtredia

 

a city (since 1921) and administrative center of Samtredia Raion, Georgian SSR. Situated in the Colchis lowlands, on the right bank of the Rioni River, 244 km northwest of Tbilisi. Railroad junction, with lines to Tbilisi, Batumi, and Tuapse and center of a network of highways. In addition to railroad-transport enterprises, the city has a food-processing industry, represented by a cannery, meat-packing plant, poultry-processing plant, and factories for the production of tea and brick tea. There is also a filature, a cotton-spinning factory, a combine for processing timber, and a plant producing concrete structural members. Samtredia has a fine arts museum and three people’s amateur theaters.
