Bakhirev, Viacheslav Vasil’evich
Born Sept. 4 (17), 1916, in the village of Dudorovo, in what is now Savino Raion, Ivanovo Oblast. Soviet state figure. Hero of Socialist Labor (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1951.
Bakhirev was the son of a peasant. He graduated from Moscow State University in 1941. Between 1941 and 1965 he worked in various plants as a design engineer, chief designer, chief engineer, and plant director. He was first deputy minister of the defense industry of the USSR from 1965 to 1968. In 1968 he was named minister of machine building of the USSR. Bakhirev became a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1971. He was a deputy to the sixth through tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
Bakhirev has received the Lenin Prize and has been awarded three Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Badge of Honor, and various medals.
