Somatology (physical anthropology), the branch of human morphology that deals with the in vivo study of the structural variations of the human body as a whole, in contrast to merology, which primarily studies individual organs in vitro. Somatology includes somatoscopy (the description of types of build and the proportions of the body and organs) and somatometry (the measurement of the body and body parts, weight, and muscle strength). somatology
