Sheppard, Eugenia

(?–1984) newspaper columnist; born near Columbus, Ohio. She revolutionized fashion reporting with her breezy style and stories about the personalities behind the clothes in her work on New York City's Herald Tribune (1940–56). Her syndicated column "Inside Fashion" (1956) made her the most influential fashion arbiter of the 1950s and 1960s. Secretive about her age, she was believed to be in her 80s when she died.
