UrusUrus(Bos primigenius,) an extinct wild ox; ancestor of the domestic ox. The urus was widespread during the second half of the Anthropogenic in the forest-steppe and steppe regions of the eastern hemisphere. The height reached 2 m at the shoulders and 1.8 m at the sacrum; the weight reached 800 kg. The skull had a flat, somewhat indented forehead, and the horns were spreading. The legs were longer than those of other oxen. The urus was hunted, and the last representative, a female, was killed in Poland in 1627. REFERENCESBogoliubskii, S. N.
