Stellitestellite[′ste‚līt]Stellitethe general name for a group of cobalt-base hard- facing alloys containing chromium, tungsten, silicon, and other elements. Stellites are characterized by great hardness, which is retained at high temperatures, and by resistance to wear and corrosion. The alloys are either fused on the working surface of parts (valve seats, gas-turbine blades) or used in the form of finished castings, which are polished prior to use as instruments. There is a large group of Stellite-like alloys in which cobalt is replaced by nickel. Stellite
