pharyngeal hypophysis

residual tissue derived from the hypophysial diverticulum that lies in the lamina propria of the nasopharynx; its cells and their arrangement are identical with those of the pars distalis of the adenohypophysis. Synonym(s): hypophysis pharyngealis [TA], pars pharyngea hypophyseos

pharyngeal hypophysis

A small structure anterior to the pharyngeal bursa. It is derived from the lower portion of Rathke's pouch and occasionally gives rise to a cyst or tumor. See also: hypophysis
