Provence Alps
Provence Alps
(Alpes de Provence), part of the Western Alps, located in Provence, France. The predominant features are ridges and plateaus of medium height, which are composed of limestones and marls. The table-like summits of the steeply sloped mountain massifs abound in karst relief formations, including karren, cones, and caves. The highest point is Mount Pelas, which rises to 3,053 m. The lower slopes have shrub growth, including evergreens; there are hardwood forests and a good deal of talus terrain at higher elevations. Regional industries include bauxite mining and tourism.
