Phagotherapy

in medicine, the treatment of certain bacterial infections, including typhoid fever, dysentery, and cholera, by means of specific bacteriophages. Because of the greater efficacy of such chemotherapeutic agents as antibiotics and sulfanilamides, phagotherapy is very limited in application.

In veterinary medicine, phagotherapy is combined with other forms of treatment as a cure for salmonellosis and colibacillosis in calves and young pigs.
