Rekrut

(recruit), an individual who was either recruited voluntarily or conscripted into the army. The term was used in the Russian Army from 1705 to 1874 to designate individuals conscripted in fulfillment of the rekrutskaia povinnost’ (military service obligation). In 1874 the term was replaced by novobranets (draftee).
