Solnechnogorsk

 

a city under oblast jurisdiction (before 1938, the settlement of Solnechnogorskii, formed in 1928 by merger of the village of Solnechnaia Gora and the railroad station settlement of Podsolnechnoe); administrative center of Solnechnogorsk Raion, Moscow Oblast, RSFSR. Situated on Lake Senezh and on the Moscow-Leningrad highway. Railroad station (Podsolnechnaia) 65 km northwest of Moscow. Population, 38,000 (1975). Solnechnogorsk has a plant for the production of reinforcing metal nets and a glassworks. There are facilities for sport fishing on Lake Senezh. There are sanatoriums, houses of rest, and Young Pioneer camps in the vicinity.
