a city under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Tatarsk Raion, Novosibirsk Oblast, RSFSR. Junction of railroad lines to Omsk, Novosibirsk, and Kulunda. Population, 31,000 (1974). Tatarsk has railroad-transport enterprises, a machine shop, and plants for the production of commercial equipment and building materials. It also has clothing and feltfootwear factories, a meat- and poultry-packing combine, a winery, and a grain elevator. Created in 1911 by the union of the settlements of Staraia Tatarka and Stantsionnyi, Tatarsk has been a city since 1925.
