Soligorsk
a city (since 1963) under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Soligorsk Raion, Minsk Oblast, Byelorussian SSR; located 133 km south of Minsk. Terminus of a branch line of the Baranovichi-Osipovichi railroad line. Population, 52,000 (1975). The city came about as a result of the discovery and exploitation of the Starobin Potassium-Salt Basin, which is located nearby. Three potash combines were built and later united as the Belorus’kalii Combine. Construction of a fourth potash combine began in 1976. Soligorsk also has enterprises for the manufacture of precast concrete and reinforced-concrete products and a factory for the production of tricot underwear. The city has a technicum of chemical mining and engineering.
