PGA , phosphoglycerate, glyceric acid phosphate PGA (phosphoglyceric acid), phosphoglycerate, glyceric acid phosphate or glycerate 3-phosphate a three-carbon molecule produced from PGAL (see Fig. 250) in GLYCOLYSIS. PGA is a molecule with a similar structure to PGAL, except that a hydroxyl (OH) replaces a hydrogen atom at one point.PGA is also a vital molecule in photosynthesis, being produced in the CALVIN CYCLE from an unstable six-carbon molecule formed when ribulose diphosphate and carbon dioxide combine. |
