a city under oblast jurisdiction and administrative center of Shchuchinsk Raion, Kokchetav Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Located on Lake Shchuch’e, 75 km southeast of Kokchetav. Railroad station (Kurort-Borovoe) on the Petropavlovsk-Tselinograd line. Population, 46,000 (1974).

Shchuchinsk has railroad and motor-vehicle transportation enterprises, as well as a glassworks, plants producing nonmetallic construction materials and reinforced-concrete articles, a milk plant, a meat-packing plant, a garment factory, and a branch of the Kokchetavmebel’ Production Association. Educational institutions include an industrial-pedagogical technicum, a polytechnical school, and a pedagogical school. The city has a nature museum. The resort of Borovoe is located 25 km northeast of Shchuchinsk.
