trust-based performance indicators

trust-based performance indicators

A UK term of art for those benchmarks which reflect the state of an organisation’s infrastructure—e.g., human resources, capital and information technology—and affect a trust’s performance. Trust performance indicators (PIs) build on the existing clinical indicators and include specifics on quality of care, the workforce, resources and efficiency. Where health (NHS) and social services (Personal Social Services—PSS) interact to improve patient care, the NHS and PSS are jointly responsible for outcomes, thus requiring that “interface” PIs are included in both the indicator sets of the NHS Performance Assessment Framework (PAF) and the equivalent PSS PAF. A larger set of benchmarking PIs is evolving continuously to enable NHS organisations to analyse their performance against their peers, identify poor performance and make improvements.
NHS trust-based PIs assess
• Clinical effectiveness and health outcomes;
• Patient and Carer Experience;
• Efficiency; and
• Capacity and Capability.
