Reimeris, Vatsis
(Vacys Reimeris). Born Aug. 3, 1921, in the city of Kuršenai. Soviet Lithuanian poet. Honored Cultural Worker of the Lithuanian SSR (1965). Member of the CPSU since 1945.
Reimeris fought in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). In 1956 he graduated from the M. Gorky Institute of Literature. He is the author of the collections of poetry To the Land of My Fathers (1945), Since Spring (1948), The Song Soars (1952), I Am Speaking to You (1958), The Circle of the Full Moon (1962), and Palms (1968). Reimeris’ poems deal with the themes of the motherland, peaceful labor, the heroism of the Soviet people, and the struggle for peace. Reimeris translated the poetry of A. T. Tvardovskii. His works have been translated into the various languages of the peoples of the USSR. He has been awarded two orders and the State Prize of the Lithuanian SSR (1975).
