Salix Acutifolia

Salix Acutifolia

a shrub or tree (up to 7 m high) of the genus Salix; it is distinguished by its bare brown-red shoots with a blue-gray film. The linear-lanceolate, long-acuminate leaves are dark green on top and bluish green beneath. This willow grows in sandy places in Northern Kazakhstan and the European USSR. A closely related species, S. rorida, grows in Siberia and the Far East along river banks. S. acutifolia is valuable for stabilizing sands and as an ornamental. It blossoms in early spring until its leaves appear. The flowers are nectariferous.
