Tîrgu-Jiu

a city in southwestern Rumania, on the Jiu River. Administrative center of Gorj District. Population, 49,000 (1974). The city has enterprises producing wood products (veneer, wood paneling, and furniture), cement, clothing, food-stuffs, and building materials.
