Tipura

Tipura

 

(also Tipera), a people in the eastern part of India in the state of Tripura. There are approximately 270,000 Tipura (1971, estimate). Their language is related to the Tibeto-Burmese language group. The Tipura belong to the southern Mongoloid group. Their religion is Hinduism. Their principal occupation is farming, with a subsidiary role played by cattle raising and such handicrafts as weaving, wickerwork with straw and bamboo, and pottery.
