Born May 16, 1827, in Roermond, Limburg; died there Mar. 3, 1921. Dutch architect.

Cuypers studied at the Academy of Arts in Antwerp. Using Dutch Gothic and Renaissance decorative motifs, he strove for functional design and simplicity of form. Cuypers’ brick and white stone buildings include the Rijksmuseum (1877–85) and the Central Station (1881–89), which are both in Amsterdam.
