steam point
steam point n (General Physics) the temperature at which the maximum vapour pressure of water is equal to one atmosphere (1.01325 × 105 N/m2). It has the value of 100° on the Celsius scale. Compare ice point steam′ point` n. the temperature at which water vapor condenses at a pressure of one atmosphere, represented by 212°F (100°C). Compare ice point. [1900–05] steam point
steam point[′stēm ‚pȯint] (thermodynamics) The boiling point of pure water whose isotopic composition is the same as that of sea water at standard atmospheric pressure; it is assigned a value of 100°C on the International Practical Temperature Scale of 1968. |
