sales agency

sales agency

a business which specializes in promoting the SALES of a client firm. Typically agents do not take title to goods but are employed on a commission basis by, for example, a producer to obtain new wholesale customers or new retail accounts. A company may employ a sales agency to handle its entire selling activities or to augment its own sales force. Agents are often used by smaller companies and are particularly useful in the context of INTERNATIONAL MARKETING where foreign agents familiar with overseas markets and distribution networks can be used to establish an EXPORT market for a firm's products. See SALES COMMISSION.
