Petr Ivanovich Simonovskii

Simonovskii, Petr Ivanovich

 

Born 1717; died 1809. Ukrainian historian.

After graduating from the Kiev Mogila Academy, Simo-novskii studied at a number of Western European universities. He served in the General Host Chancellery and wrote a history of the Ukrainian cossacks. Simonovskii was an advocate of political autonomy for the Ukraine. He expressed the interests of the cossack starshina (dominant people) and was hostile to the peasant antifeudal movement.
