shared decision making

shared decision making

The active involvement of patients and carers and significant others in the UK in choosing management options—e.g., eliciting utilities and preferences by discussion, through interactive CDs, etc.
Shared decision programmes may improve healthcare services, as patients
• Better understand the types of procedures available and chances of success;
• Are more confident in their choice, reducing the likelihood of a lawsuit; and
• Often choose less invasive (i.e., less expensive) procedures.
