Tzanck's test

 [tsankz] cytologic examination of scrapings from the base of herpetic lesions for diagnosis of herpes simplex and herpes" >genital herpes. The scrapings are fixed on a slide with absolute or methyl alcohol and stained with Giemsa stain; presence of multinucleated giant cells or typical eosinophilic intranuclear inclusions is diagnostic of herpesvirus infection.
