the official (responsible to the DEPARTMENT OF TRADE AND INDUSTRY) who maintains a record of all JOINT-STOCK COMPANIES operating in the UK. All joint-stock companies must lodge a copy of their MEMORANDUM OF ASSOCIATION and ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION with the Registrar at Companies House when they are first formed, and larger companies must continue to file their ANNUAL RETURN, ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS and a REGISTER OF CHARGES on their assets with the Registrar each year. Any potential lender or investor can inspect the company records lodged with the Registrar in order to gain background information about a particular company.
